India’’s Arjun Atwal, winner of two titles on The European Tour International Schedule, created history when he became the first player to earn over US$1 million in the career earnings on the Asian PGA Tour when he won the Hero Honda Masters at Dehli Golf Club.
The 31 year old shot a final round 71, one under par, for a seven under par total of 281, one stroke clear of Mexico’’s Pablo del Olmo, Jyoti Randhawa of India and Gary Runsak of the United States.
Victory earned Atwal $48,450 to take his career earnings to $1,016,352 and also edged him closer to topping the Asian PGA Tour Order of Merit for 2003. He leads second placed Zhang Lian-Wei of China by $126,000 with four events to play.
“Having achieved the milestone of becoming the first Asian to win a million dollars is nice, but what matters is more is the fact that I have won the title,” said Atwal, winner of the Carlsberg Malaysian Open on The European Tour International Schedule earlier this year.
