Ballantine's extends golf programme

The European Tour and Loch Lomond Golf Club have announced that Ballantine’s, the world’s No 3 Scotch whisky, has signed a three year agreement to become an ‘Official Sponsor’ of The Barclays Scottish Open from 2007 to 2009.

This week’s tournament at Loch Lomond sees Ballantine’s added to the roster of sponsors following last week’s announcement that Ballantine’s will title sponsor The Ballantine’s Championship in Korea from March 13-16, 2008, co-sanctioned by The European Tour and the Korea PGA.

The involvement in the Barclays Scottish Open adds to Ballantine’s portfolio of golf sponsorships, giving the brand international exposure during the European summer season to complement its involvement in Korea.

The €2,000,000  Ballantine’s Championship, which will be held at Pinx Golf Club on the picturesque island of Jeju, is the first European Tour event to be held in Korea and will be the largest ever staged there. Ballantine’s, the undisputed No.1 super premium Scotch in Korea and throughout Asia, is title sponsoring the event for a minimum of three years.

“The Barclays Scottish Open is a prestigious event held in the home nation of golf. The tournament, the high calibre field and exclusive surroundings here at the Loch Lomond Golf Club fit perfectly with the Ballantine’s brand and will be seen by our consumers around the world,” said Christian Porta, Chairman and CEO of Chivas Brothers, which owns Ballantine’s. “Ballantine’s is an iconic brand and golf is an iconic sport and together they are a powerful combination.

Keith Waters, Director of International Policy for The European Tour, said: “We welcome Ballantine’s arrival as an Official Sponsor of The Barclays Scottish Open following their superb announcement of The Ballantine’s Championship in Korea, and congratulate Ballantine’s on their foresight in supporting golf worldwide.”

Ballantine’s Scotch whisky is the world’s No 3 Scotch whisky by volume and enjoys a special status across Asia where it is the undisputed No 1 super-premium Scotch. Ballantine’s has won over 60 trophies and medals at international competitions in the past  ten years for quality as a result of its unique richness of character and perfect balance.  Its range, from Ballantine’s Finest to the iconic 30 Year Old, is the most extensive in the world of Scotch and is maintained by the latest in a tradition of master blenders that dates back to 1827.
