Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer have both confirmed they will take part in the Compaq European Grand Prix at De Vere Slaley Hall on June 24 –27.
Langer, one of the most dedicated and respected professionals in the game, will play at the Northumberland venue of the first time when the tournament gets underway on June 24.
Ballesteros meanwhile kept a promise he made 12 months ago when telling the organisers he would play this year’’s tournament. The presence of Ballesteros and Langer at De Vere Slaley Hall when the action gets underway will add even greater strength to the Compaq European Grand Prix which has already attracted Ryder Cup stars Darren Clarke, Mark James, Sandy Lyle, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam.
Meeting director Nigel Gough said: “A few weeks ago we were delighted when Ian Woosnam confirmed he would play in this tournament. Now having Bernhard and Seve plus seven winners on the European Tour this year coming to Slaley, I am convinced this will be the best-ever Compaq European Grand Prix.
“Having these players in the field will ensure a huge tournout of spectators at the end of this month. You have to remember valuable Ryder Cup points are at stake and the first prize of £108,330 is nothing to be sniffed at.”
