Bernd Wiesberger produced a stirring performance on the final back nine to claim his first DP World Tour title in five years at the 2026 Volvo China Open.
The Austrian had been a picture of consistency this week at Shanghai Enhance Anting Golf Club and trailed Adrian Otaegui by one shot heading into Sunday's final round.
It soon became a two-way tussle for the title as the final group surged clear of the field, however, Otaegui reached the turn with a three-shot lead at 19 under.
A scoring burst of three birdies in four holes saw Wiesberger reel in Otaegui before taking the outright lead at the 16th when Otaegui dropped his second shot in five holes.
Emirati got in trouble down the last and Wiesberger played conservatively to seal his ninth DP World Tour title by three shots at 19 under.
"It's been a tough couple of years," an emotional Wiesberger said. "An unbelievable week.
"I played my heart out today, it wasn't pretty at times but I got it done.
"Adrian is a great competitor and had it under control, but something happened on that tenth hole that I can't explain. That's how golf goes sometimes.
"I'm super proud of sticking through hard times on the golf course lately, but this is for everyone at home and couldn't be happier.
"Everyone is watching and super excited now, and it changes my next couple of years a little bit. It gets me into the Rolex Series events again and that's huge."
Overnight leader Otaegui improved his advantage at the fourth thanks to a fine approach inside five feet to take a stranglehold of the tournament.
Both players in the final group birdied the next and when Otaegui birdied the eighth from over 20 feet, he led by three at 19 under.
He maintained that lead as they started the back nine, where Wiesberger hit top form to join his playing partner at the summit.
After getting out of position at the par-five tenth, the Austrian produced a stunning chip-in for an unlikely birdie and gained some momentum.
Otaegui hit back with a brilliant approach to two feet at the 11th to reach 20 under, but Wiesberger drained a putt from 25 feet to maintain the two-shot deficit.
His rival blinked at the next when he dropped his first shot of the round at the 12th and Wiesberger piled on the pressure with another long birdie putt at the 13th to become joint leader at 19 under.
The nerves hit both players as neither could make the breakthrough until Otaegui found the greenside bunker at the par-three 16th and could not get up and down.
Wiesberger was the new leader and despite missing the chance to reach 20 under at the 17th, he led by one going down the last.
Otaegui got in all sorts of trouble down the last to close with a double bogey and finish at 16 under, while Wiesberger two-putted for par to seal his return to the winner's enclosure after a 1792-day absence.
Sweden's Mikael Lindberg fired a final-round 67 to clinch solo third at 14 under, with South African Shaun Norris one shot further back in fourth.
German Freddy Schott carded the lowest round of Sunday with a 64 to take fifth at 12 under, France's Tom Vaillant and Englishman shared sixth at 11 under and defending champion Ashun Wu led Alejandro Del Rey, Darius van Driel, Antoine Rozner and Anthony Quayle one shot further back.
