Billy Horschel is looking to complete a pair of hat-tricks as he tees it up for the first time at the BMW International Open this week.
The American claimed his maiden Rolex Series win at last season's BMW PGA Championship, making it a BMW double after winning the BMW Championship on the PGA TOUR seven years earlier.
He now arrives at Golfclub München Eichenried looking to make it a trio of BMW and also DP World Tour titles after adding the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play to his trophy collection last season.
"I’m excited," he said. "After winning Wentworth last year, I said on the 18th green that I wished BMW sponsored every event I played in.
"That got me thinking that I should make a trip to Germany to play the BMW International Open and win the one BMW title I’ve not won yet.
"I understand that of the current BMW tournaments around the world, there’s only one other guy who has won the BMW Championship and the BMW PGA and that’s Rory McIlroy, so maybe I can beat him to the punch and win the third one before he can."
The 35-year-old is also looking forward to taking in the sights and sounds of Bavaria for the first time.
"I’m really excited to be here because it’s my first time in Germany,” he said. “I haven’t seen too much of it but I’m looking forward to getting out over the next couple of days and see a little bit of Munich and downtown.
"Everyone has been very nice and very accommodating. Driving to the course from the hotel, you can see everyone is very active on bikes, riding around and exercising. I can tell it’s a great city to be outdoors and not be indoors all the time."
Horschel secured his seventh PGA TOUR title at the Memorial Tournament earlier this month, and despite missing the cut at the U.S. Open last week, he is still in a confident mood ahead of the BMW International Open.
"Preparation has been pretty good," he said. "The win at Memorial was unbelievable, I played so well all week and that has given me confidence.
"My game is in good shape, I played well last week at the U.S. Open. On Friday I didn’t make any putts and on Thursday I had a bad nine holes where I didn’t hit the ball in the fairway and at the U.S. Open you have to do that.
"This week has gone pretty well prep-wise. The swing has been good recently and it’s made its way across the Atlantic to Germany. We’ll see what’s in store.
"It’s a course where the score has been really low but other times it has been 14 or 15 under par. I’m excited to see what my game has this week and hopefully walk away with another BMW trophy."
