Alexander Levy made a stunning 17 birdies in 35 holes to open up a commanding six-shot lead in the second round of the Porsche European Open.
The Frenchman has missed spells of the summer with a wrist injury but has been in good form since his return in early September and continued that in brilliant fashion at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach.
With nearly seven hours lost over the first two days due to early morning fog in Germany, Levy returned to the course to complete his first round on Friday and made five birdies in nine holes to take the lead at nine under.
A further eight followed in 17 holes before the horn sounded for darkness and he was at 17 under with one hole to complete at 0800 on Saturday morning.
Robert Karlsson and playing partner Ross Fisher were then at 11 under with three holes to complete, with the Swede on the charge at nine under for his first 15 holes.
Local favourite Martin Kaymer was also at 11 under with one to play as he finalises his preparations for next week's Ryder Cup.
The second wave of players will get their second rounds under way on Saturday morning, with round three scheduled to begin in the afternoon.
Levy went out in the final group at last week's Italian Open before finishing in a tie for seventh and is searching for his third European Tour title and first since the 2014 Portugal Masters.
The 26 year old flew out of the blocks in round two, starting birdie-birdie-birdie and then holing a 15-footer on the 14th - a hole he had chipped in on earlier in the day.
I just want to have fun and to do my job. When I play like today, you just enjoy it. That's all you can do - Alexander Levy
A stunning tee-shot to four feet then handed him another birdie on the 17th and he also made a gain on the first before continuing his dominance of the par threes by getting to six feet on the next.
He missed a short one for another birdie on the third but a brilliant tee-shot on the seventh put him in total command.
"It was really good," he said. "I said this morning that I just wanted to have fun and enjoy and play my golf. That is what I did today and now it's really nice. I enjoy the time with my caddie on the golf course. I played well and it is always good to be in a position like that.
"I finished my round well this morning with two birdies in the last two holes and started with three birdies on the first three holes. I think I'm in a good way and I just need to enjoy and to do my best to do my job.

Karlsson turned in 30 with birdies on the first, second, third, 14th, 17th and 18th, adding another on the first. When he holed a lengthy putt for eagle on the third and put his tee-shot to ten feet on the fourth, something special was on the cards before a three-putt bogey on the fifth stalled his momentum.
Kaymer also made a fast start with five birdies in seven holes to turn in 31. Another followed on the third but he bogeyed the fourth before bouncing back with further gains on the fifth and eighth.
Fisher was a picture of consistency in his second round making birdies on the tenth, 12th, 15th, 17th and first.
South African Jean Hugo and Australian Jason Scrivener were then at ten under after 13 and ten holes respectively, a shot clear of clubhouse leader Matthew Southgate, Soomin Lee and Mikael Lundberg.
