The MasterCard Masters will feature another high quality field comprising at least eight players who have been ranked in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking during 2007.
In addition to the participation of Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Michael Campbell and Richard Green, Denmark’s Thomas Björn will play at the MasterCard Masters, to be staged at the glorious Huntingdale Golf Club in Melbourne from November 22-25, 2007, for the first time.
Björn, who was recently been elected Chairman of the European Tour Tournament Committee, is a two time Ryder Cup player and nine time winner on The European Tour – most recently at the 2006 Irish Open. He also has an affinity for Australia having won the 1998 Heineken Classic back in 1998.
Also confirmed in the MasterCard Masters field is the 2006 MFS Australian Open Champion, John Senden, who is coming off another very successful year on the PGA Tour with four top five finishes including a fourth place at the US PGA Championship. He returns to Australia high on confidence on the back of consecutive top five finishes in his final two events in America.
Two time PGA Tour winner, Rod Pampling, is another world class player vying to win the highly prized Gold Jacke at the MasterCard Masters. Pampling missed just three cuts in 25 starts in the USA, and finished in third place at the Memorial Tournament.
Mark Hensby returns to Australia to play for the first time since 2005. After being plagued by injury worries since being involved in a car crash in early 2006, Hensby is back to full fitness as evidenced by his second place finish at last week’s event on the PGA Tour. Mark is also a past champion on The European Tour having won the 2005 Scandinavian Masters.
Past MasterCard Masters Champions, Peter Lonard and Peter Senior will also be in the field with Senior making a dash back from the Final Stage of The European Tour Qualifying School to try and add a third MasterCard Masters title to his 26 career wins.
Further European players will be announced in the coming weeks as players’ schedules are finalised.
