The BMW Italian Open returns for the second year to the Royal Park I Roveri club in Turin at the beginning of May. Defending the title will be Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik who proved once again last year that, when he wins on The European Tour, he certainly does it in style.
In his maiden Tour triumph in the 2007 Madeira Islands Open BPI, he won by seven shots, while in Italy the margin was six following a superb best of day final round 65 for a winning total of 17 under par 267.
Beginning Sunday with a slender one stroke advantage, the Argentine quickly stamped his authority on proceedings, birdieing four of the first six holes to be out in 32, before ending the tournament as a contest with three further birdies in the first five holes of the inward half. Distant second place was shared between Raphaël Jacquelin, Robert Rock and a resurgent John Daly.
It is certainly a feast or a famine on Tour for Vancsik. His victory in Madeira came on his 50th start, with the previous 49 not containing a single top ten, while his win in Italy came over a year after he recorded his previous top ten finish.
