Cabrera joins world-class field for Loch Lomond

Seven of the World’s top 20 players, including new US Open Champion Angel Cabrera have confirmed their entry to The £3,000,000 Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond Golf Club from July 12-15.

Now 17th on the Official World Golf Ranking, Cabrera will join Number Two Phil Mickelson, Number Five and double Barclays Scottish Open champion Ernie Els, Number Nine Luke Donald, Number Ten Retief Goosen, Number 12 Sergio Garcia, as well as Number 17 Trevor Immelman, on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Cabrera’s victory at Oakmont Country Club, securing his first Major Championship, has elevated the 37 year old Argentine’s golfing stature to a new level, and his impressive combination of power and finesse make him a thrilling prospect to watch, especially at a venue he loves in the stunning shape of Loch Lomond Golf Club, where he finished tied fifth in 2005 and tied 14th last season behind Johan Edfors.

Mickelson, Els, Donald, Goosen (The 2001 Barclays Scottish Open champion), Garcia and Immelman, meanwhile, add to the world class nature of the event with each of them capable of producing moments of pure magic.

Both Els and Donald are effusive in their praise of The Barclays Scottish Open.

Els said: “Each year my family and I really look forward to returning to The Barclays Scottish Open. The golf course is fabulous and we always have a wonderful week. As a past champion the tournament holds special memories for me and I hope to be in contention for the title again in July.”

Donald added: “I am really looking forward to two great weeks of golf in Scotland, commencing with The Barclays Scottish Open. I really enjoy the week at Loch Lomond – it is a tremendous golf course and a fantastic week for players and their families.”

Donald and Garcia, The 2006 European Ryder Cup Team’s most potent foursomes partnership with two wins out of two at The K Club, will be reunited with five other members from that record-equalling side at The Barclays Scottish Open, namely Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley, Colin Montgomerie, José Maria Olazábal and Lee Westwood.

Montgomerie, The Barclays Scottish Open champion in 1999, will, of course, have the invaluable and knowledgeable support of the home crowd for one of The European Tour’s most prestigious events.

Also confirmed in the hugely impressive field are 19 of the 31 champions on The 2007 European Tour International Schedule including Cabrera, Els, and Spain’s Pablo Martin, who took the golfing world by storm by becoming the first amateur player in European Tour history to win a full Tour event at the Estoril Open de Portugal.

The 21 year old Martin has since left the amateur ranks and will make his professional debut on his home continent at Loch Lomond.
