Cazoo Open supported by Gareth Bale - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from Moving Day at The Celtic Manor Resort.

Shinkwin

Shinkwin leapfrogged playing partner Guerrier at the top of the leaderboard as the duo set up an exciting final-round showdown on the third day of the 2022 Cazoo Open supported by Gareth Bale.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at The Celtic Manor Resort.

Shinkwin's love affair with Celtic Manor continues

The Celtic Manor Resort has been a happy hunting ground for Callum Shinkwin in recent seasons, finishing fourth and joint-eighth in his last two outings there. He has been extremely impressive at the 2010 Ryder Cup venue once again this week and leads by one after three rounds thanks to Saturday's marvellous 65, which he topped off with a shot-of-the-day contender at the last to set up a tap-in birdie.

Guerrier still very much in the hunt

Julien Guerrier was knocked off the summit on day three but he barely put a foot wrong throughout his third-round 68. Three birdies on the front nine saw him lead by three at the turn and although he did not make another birdie until the 18th hole, he gave himself a number of chances and made some solid par saves. He will be hoping to claim his maiden DP World Tour title on Sunday, and with third-placed Connor Syme five shots behind him, it looks like Shinkwin might be the only man standing in Guerrier's way. He said: "I’m pretty happy, to play under par on this course is always a good thing. Of course it felt a little like a match play, but my main goal was to remain focused on my game. If Callum is playing well that’s not my concern, really good for him of course, but I tried to remain focused on my game and stay in the zone."

Defending champion's birdie blitz

Last year's winner Nacho Elvira did not have things his own way on the front nine on day three, making a double bogey and a bogey in his first nine holes. But his round sprang into life after the turn and he got all three shots back in quick succession, with birdies at the tenth, 11th and 12th helping him to sign for a 71.

Howell produces the goods

This week is a special one for England's David Howell, who is playing in his 700th DP World Tour event. And he marked the occasion with a stunning 68 on Saturday, making an eagle, three birdies and two bogeys. Let the man himself tell you all about his eagle at the par-four 15th...

Waring goes very low

Paul Waring made a testing course look simple on Saturday as he posted a 65, which contained seven birdies and a single bogey, to get to four under par - and if he can repeat the trick in the final round, who knows where that will leave him on Sunday afternoon?
