Alex Cejka will return to play in his home city of Munich for the first time in three years when he joins Martin Kaymer and Bernhard Langer to drive the home challenge at the 20th BMW International Open at Golfclub München Eichenried.
The German trio will be hoping to outrun global stars including Paul Casey, Michael Campbell, Luke Donald, defending champion Niclas Fasth, Retief Goosen, BMW PGA Championship winner Miguel Angel Jiménez, Robert Karlsson, Colin Montgomerie, Ian Poulter and Jeev Milkha Singh in the race for the lion’s share of a €2million prize fund.
Cejka’s fourth place finish in last week’s Stanford St. Jude Championship on the US PGA Tour signals a perfectly timed return to form as the 37 year old prepares for his homecoming.
BMW International Open Tournament Director, Marco Kaussler, said: “Once again we are honoured to have a top class field confirmed in Munich, which is just as it should be for the 20th anniversary event. “
“And with an on-form Alex Cejka returning to his home city of Munich after a three year absence, the German fans really have cause for extra celebration.”
When Cejka last competed in the BMW International Open in 2004, he finished in third place. This year, the pro from Marienbad has already secured three Top 10 finishes on the US PGA Tour, missing out on the Stanford St. Jude Championship play-off by just a single stroke
“I’m really looking forward to playing in Munich again,”said Cejka. “I was up in contention for victory when I last played there. Let’s see what this year has in store.”
Cejka is one of 13 German players among the 156 pros participating in the 20th BMW International Open. Besides Cejka, Kaymer, and Langer, European Tour Members Sven Strüver and Marcel Siem are also teeing off.
Indeed, Strüver will already have a tournament record before the action gets underway: he is the only player to have taken part in all 19 previous editions of the BMW International Open.
On top of the €2 million prize fund, there is also a special “Hole-in-One-Car” prize. The first player to hit an ace on the 17th hole will receive a new BMW 7 Series this autumn – which is when the hotly anticipated new model from BMW’s luxury car range comes onto the market.
