“The Qualifying School is exciting in a perverse way, but it's why you spend hour after hour on the practice ground and what it's all about. I'm delighted to have come through but I know that I must work hard from now.”

20. Magnus Persson Atlevi (Sweden)

Age: 36. Turned Professional: 1982. Years on European Tour: 1983-91. European Tour Career Winnings: 482,579 euro (£344,699). European Challenge Tour Victories: 1998 Is Molas Challenge. 2001 European Challenge Tour Rankings: 36th.

“I'm delighted to have given myself the chance to play in the big tournaments again on The European Tour. I think I have a few more years to still be competitive. The Qualifying week hasn't always been my cup of tea - I always used to be so nervous I had no appetite. This time I treated it just like any other tournament - you must accept it's a marathon and you are going to make mistakes - and it's great to have come through. The standard of golf is completely different to when I first came out on the Tour. We all know that, but basically you also have two choices. You either learn from your mistakes or you don't. Slowly and gradually I've learned and now it means I will play golf in the right place next year.”

“This is the biggest step I've made in my golfing career. I've been so close over the last few years so to make it means everything to me. The Qualifying School is the best test of golf for anyone. I must admit it brings the best and the worst out of you. It's a test of nerves, it's a test of your game and it's a test of your self belief.”

“It means the world to me to have another chance to go out on The European Tour. The first time around I didn't know what to do as I had played only one year on the Challenge Tour. Now I've had another year on the Challenge Tour I feel that more confident. In fact it might be a little easier for me going out and playing with the bigger names again having already done it once before.”
.

“This has all been unknown territory for me, but it's what it's all about. I've never been to the Qualifying School before and I've exceeded all my expectations. I'm looking forward to what lies ahead.”

“This is everything I've dreamed of since I started playing golf. It hasn't sunk in yet, but it will. I got a taste of what it's like at St Andrews when I qualified for the 2000 Open Championship. I've always known this is where I wanted to be, and where I should be. I didn't feel out of place at St Andrews, which was good, and now thanks to the Qualifying School I've got a full year to prove myself. My fifth round of 65 at San Roque was without question the round of my life.”

“It's so important to be playing on The European Tour and so for me it was particularly important to get straight back there.
