Colsaerts surges clear in Turkey

Nicolas Colsaerts turned in 30 to open up a four-shot lead in the second round of the Turkish Airlines Open.

The big-hitting Belgian made four birdies in his first six holes to jump out to 11 under and lead the way from three-time Major Championship winner Padraig Harrington, Dane Søren Kjeldsen, Dutchman Joost Luiten and England's Eddie Pepperell.

Defending champion Thorbjørn Olesen, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Stephen Gallacher, Tyrrell Hatton, Haydn Porteous, Jordan Smith, Matthew Southgate and Lee Westwood were then five shots off the lead.

An elite field had gathered at Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort with a seven million US dollar prize fund available in the sixth Rolex Series event of the season.

Colsaerts played the first in textbook fashion, leaving himself about 12 feet for birdie and holing the putt to move into the lead on his own.

Ahead on the par three second Harrington played the up-and-down of the week to stay at six under and, when the leading group arrived, Colsaerts got an incredible slice of luck, seeing his ball come down from the trees on the left allowing him to make par.

Dutchman Luiten went one better, finding the green with his tee-shot and holing his putt to take a share of the lead.

Colsaerts hit the front on his own again as he holed a left-to-righter from ten feet on the third and it was a two-shot lead when Luiten recovered well from finding the trees off the tee but three-putted.

A towering iron shot over a tree and into five feet on the fifth handed Colsaerts a three-shot lead and it was soon four as he put his tee-shot on the par three sixth to 12 feet.

England's Westwood did get within three as he birdied the third, fifth, seventh and ninth but a double-bogey on the tenth dropped him back.

South African Porteous had also been eight under as he made two birdies in a row after finding the water on the sixth but bunker trouble on the ninth led to a double.

Harrington made a birdie on the sixth to turn in 33 but it was Kjeldsen who was making the big move. The Dane made a birdie-birdie start and when he holed from 18 feet on the ninth, he was up to seven under.

Pepperell had birdies on the first and seventh while Luiten made six pars in a row to turn in 34.

Dane Olesen, Scot Gallacher and English duo Smith and Southgate were all four under par for their rounds to sit alongside Porteous, Westwood, England's Hatton and Thai Aphibarnrat.
