Maximilian Kieffer was pleased to see his hard work pay off after making the cut on The European Tour for the 22nd time in a row on Friday.
The 25 year old produced a second successive round of 68 on day two of the Porsche European Open to ensure he will play at the weekend. Kieffer now has the longest active streak on The European Tour and he was naturally delighted with his achievement.
He said: "Every time you put your name on a record, no matter what it is, it is nice. It’s a good achievement. It’s nice because I’ve put a lot of work in and to see the consistency is there is very satisfying."
Beginning his second round at the tenth tee, Kieffer got off to a strong start at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach, firing birdies at the tenth and 12th holes to reach the turn in 34.The German then picked up another shot at the fifth hole to move to six under par.
"I played better than yesterday and gave myself more chances," he said. "Unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to take advantage of the good iron shots today and didn’t make enough putts.
"The pin positions and distances I had today suited me better. Today I could hit full shots and fade it in, which was nice.
"At your home tournament you don’t want to miss out on the weekend.
"I’m in a nice position to maybe have an enjoyable weekend if I can play well. You do feel more pressure. I would like to win tournaments. I’ve been close a few times so you do put more pressure on yourself. It’s disappointing when you don’t make putts but I’m happy where I am."
Kieffer is one shot behind the leading German player, Florian Fritsch, who eagled the third hole en route to a round of 69 to move to seven under par.
