Opened in 1908, originally designed by Fremantle and Gedge, and then re-designed by M. Nicholson in 1929, and by Severiano Ballesteros in 1999.
The course plays relatively easy, apart from the greens which as they become firm they get harder to hold the ball on as their design means the ball will run off if not properly controlled.
It is a very undulating course, tree lined in most places.
The ball travels at least 10% further than normal at this altitude.
This venue is perhaps the most stunning on Tour, with views up to the Pleine Morte Glacier and across the mountain ranges and the valley below the 7th tee.
There has been considerable rain over the last week so some areas of the course are now quite wet. Forecast for the tournament is generally fine with temperatures in mid 20's and light winds.
