Greens

Type of grass - mix of meadow grass and bent grass

Height of cut - 3mm

Speed / stimpmeter reading - 11'

Any specific comments - some greens have excessive slope such as the 8th and 15th and will be prepared differently to maintain playability

Fairways

Type of grass - mix of bent grass and meadow grass

Height of cut - 11mm

General width and contouring - average width

Tees / collars

Type of grass - mix of meadow grass and bent

Height of cut - 8mm

Rough

Type of grass - mix of bent meadow grass and rye grass

Height of cut - semi 2m wide at 32mm, rough maintained at 90mm

Any specific comments - very dry and hot summer means that the rough is very inconsistent and much lighter than 90mm in some places

Weather

Weather in advance - hot and mainly dry

Forecast for tournament - mostly warm and sunny in the early part with some cooling from Friday

Course

Opened - 1959 (club's 50th anniversary this year)

Course designer - Fred Hawtree

Special features - the 18th is a 209 yard par 3 and is the course's feature hole with water protecting the back right pin position

General playability - not the longest course these days but some tricky greens and tree lined fairways keep this an interesting challenge

Undulating / flat - quite a lot of undulation

Tree lined / exposed - very much tree lined

Many / few water hazards - quite a few hazards on holes 5, 7, 9, 11, 12 and 18

Changes to the course - since the last Trophy Lancome in 2003 greens 2, 3 and 4 have been rebuilt to USGA specification with some minor redesign; the first has also been rebuilt and completely remodeled; and on holes 11 and 12 the water has been bought much more into play
