Norman Dabell and Charlie Mulqueen, two of Europe’s finest golf writers who have retired over the past 12 months, were honoured during the Race to Dubai European Golfer of the Year luncheon in London.
Presentations to both correspondents followed the announcements of Luke Donald as The Race to Dubai European Tour Golfer of the Year for 2011 and the induction of Sandy Lyle and Peter Alliss into the World Golf Hall of Fame during the Tour’s annual celebration at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.
O’Grady described Mulqueen as a “great professional” as he and 2012 Ryder Cup Captain José Maria Olazábal presented the former Golf Correspondent of the Irish Examiner with a Thomas Lyte carriage clock.
O’Grady then paid tribute to Dabell’s “legendary” ability to dig out a story during more than three decades as a freelance golf writer covering The European Tour for the Daily Telegraph, Reuters and BBC Radio 5 Live and more.
