European Tour Member Brian Davis is one shot off the lead held by American Will McKenzie after the first round of the Wyndham Championship, held at Greensborough, North Carolina, on the US PGA Tour schedule.
Davis shot a superb, bogey free opening seven under par 65 to McKenzie's 64, and is in a four-way tie for second place with Americans Steve Marino, Lucas Glover and Jeff Overton.
Davis birdied the second, seventh and ninth holes in his outward nine of 33 on the Forest Oaks course, and came back in 32 after recording birdies at the 11th, 13th, 15th and 17th holes. He hit 89 per cent of greens in regulation and took just 29 putts in total.
Fellow European Tour Member, Carl Pettersen, is two shots further back from the lead after he shot 66. The Swede also fired seven birdies, going out in 31 strokes after five birdies, but a dropped shot at the 16th ensured he is in a tie for sixth place.
