Day one digest: D+D Real Czech Masters

A case of deja vu and some impressive chipping was just a taste of the things on display on day one of the D+D Real Czech Masters.

Here is everything you need to know from Thursday at Albatross Golf Resort.

Green for go in Prague

Gavin Green had one of the best weeks of his European Tour career here last season and he laid the foundations for another good week on Thursday. The Malaysian matched his 2018 opening round of 64 to get to eight under and lead the way by one shot from Lee Slattery and Erik van Rooyen as he looks for a first European Tour title. His best finish so far is second at the 2017 Hero Indian Open but a victory on Sunday would make him the first Malaysian European Tour winner.

Slatts gets a flier.........again

In his first 13 events of the season, Slattery fired just two opening rounds in the 60s as he missed nine cuts. The Englishman missed another cut after an opening 69 in Spain but since then he has been the fastest starter on Tour. A 65 in Ireland was followed by a 64 in Scotland and another 65 was the order of the day on Thursday, the highlight of which was this monster.

Breezy Bernd loving his golf

Life is pretty good for Bernd Wiesberger at the minute. After recovering from a serious wrist injury, he has two wins on the 2019 Race to Dubai and sits second on the Rankings Presented by Rolex. The affable Austrian has always cut a fairly laid back figure and it may be his approach as much as his brilliant game that is bringing results. "It's definitely not life changing," he said. "I try not to make whatever happens out here too depending on how I feel off the golf course and in my life but I certainly appreciate what has happened the last couple of weeks. I try to feed off it and not take it for granted either. Keep working and try to keep producing good scores and just enjoy myself out there." He heads into day two three shots off the lead.

Never one to be outdone by the young guns, the Great Dane Thomas Bjørn then did this later in the day.
