Day one digest: Scandinavian Invitation

Bland new Volkswagen

Adam Bland's first round was heading in the wrong direction on the front nine, as he made one bogey and a double bogey to reach the turn in 39. But the Australian put all that behind him at the par three tenth, holing his tee shot to fire the 23rd ace of the European Tour season and walk away with a Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI 4 Motion for his efforts.

Ormsby lands incredible eagle

Wade Ormsby was caught in two minds as he prepared to take his second shot from 196 yards at the par four 14th. Faced with a choice between his four iron and five iron, he opted for the former and his decision paid off handsomely as he holed his approach for a brilliant eagle. The Australian, who started from the tenth tee and got his first birdie at the 12th, went on to make three birdies in a row from the 16th before picking up two further shots on his back nine to sign for a 62. He said: "On 14 I was in between a five and a four iron, picked the right one and boxed it, so then I just got a bit of momentum through the final holes."

Stenson's birdie blitz

Beginning at the tenth tee, home hero Stenson made a mixed start to his first round after bouncing back from bogeys at the 13th and 15th with a birdie at the 16th to turn in 35 shots. But the Ryder Cup star caught fire on his back nine, reeling off four straight birdies from the first thanks to a series of brilliant putts. And the magic didn't stop there as Stenson limited the damage with a monster bogey putt from some 35 feet on the seventh green after finding the water with his second shot.

Amateur Nyfjäll makes his mark

When David Nyfjäll imagined his European Tour debut, he probably didn't dare to dream it would begin with five birdies in his first 12 holes - but that's exactly what happened on Thursday. The Swedish amateur opened his round with back to back birdies before finishing his front nine with a birdie at the 18th to turn in 31. Two more birdies followed at the second and third before his only blemish - a double bogey at the long eighth - saw him post a first round 67.
