51- The 14-time European Tour winner is 51 under par for his last 17 rounds after his five under par start in Australia.

13- Garcia's round of 67 is his 13th sub-70 round in his last 17 rounds.

1981- If Garcia continues his bright start, he'll be just the second Spaniard to win this event after Seve Ballesteros in 1981.

20- Harold Varner III is 20 under par for his last nine rounds in this event. The American finished runner-up two years ago and won last year.

2014- Marc Leishman's opening round of 67 is his lowest first round on the European Tour since the 2014 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational (64).

58- Peter Senior is tied for third after 18 holes. The 58 year old went bogey-free on Thursday.

2013- Home favourite Adam Scott is one under par. The Australian won this event in 2013 and has finished in a share of second and outright third since.

17- The 448-yard par four 17th proved the toughest hole. There were just eight birdies and 24 bogeys, with five doubles or worse.

15- In contrast, the 565-yard par five 15th was the easiest. The hole yielded 35 birdies and just four bogeys or worse.

2- Play was suspended twice for heavy rain on the opening day.
