Day three digest: 2022 Catalunya Championship

Everything you need to know from day three in Spain.

PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness

Oliver moved ahead, Edoardo was loving the short stick, Thomas got a bit of luck and Laurie was off to the equipment truck in round three of the 2022 Catalunya Championship.

Here is everything you need to now from Saturday at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness.

Bekker bursts ahead

Oliver Bekker will take a two-shot lead into the final round as he looks to turn his fine form into a first DP World Tour victory. The South African carded a 67 on day three to get to 11 under and sit ahead of England's Laurie Canter, who carded a 70. Italian duo Lorenzo Gagli and Edoardo Molinari were then at eight under, a shot clear of Kiwi Ryan Fox and Pole Adrian Meronk. Bekker has five top-tens in nine starts this term as he plays his first season with full playing privileges after graduating from the European Challenge Tour. "Tomorrow I’m just going to do the same thing, it’s been working for me, I’m not going to change anything," he said. "If it’s my day, it’s my day, if not, just try to give my best and see what happens."

Putter gives Molinari the whole package

Edoardo Molinari was delighted to get the putter going as he carded a bogey-free 66 to put himself right in contention for a fourth DP World Tour win. The 2010 Ryder Cup star produced one of the stories of the 2017 season when he won the Trophée Hassan II having had to secure his card here at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness via the Qualifying School in the previous two years. He had his best result since that win as he came second at the 2021 Porsche European Open and he was once again finding his form as he moved to eight under on day three in Girona. "I've been struggling on the greens for a long time, the long game has always been there so it's nice to finally be able to make some putts," he said.

No putter required

Bekker was the star of the show on Saturday and it was largely due to shots like this.

What a break

You win 15 DP World Tour titles due to talent, hard work and skill. Things like this help, too. No wonder Thomas Bjørn is smiling.

What a break!

Slightly different kind of break, admittedly. Full commitment from Canter. "I actually thought I could stop in time and maybe just bend it back," he said. "I was fully committed, will be a funny one to watch in slow-mo to see how quickly the shaft wrapped. We’ll have to get the Bunsen burner out and fix that to get a full squad of clubs back for tomorrow."
