Day three digest: ASI Scottish Open

Everything you need to know from day three at The Renaissance Club in the third Rolex Series event of the season.

The Renaissance Club

Records tumbled, new ground was broken and the golfing gods had their say in round three of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open.

Here is everything you need to know from day three at The Renaissance Club in the third Rolex Series event of the season.

Wiesberger rips up the record books

Bernd Wiesberger's incredible 2019 Race to Dubai showed no signs of slowing down as he opened up a two shot lead heading into Sunday. After missing seven months of 2018 with a wrist injury, he recently claimed a win in Denmark and last week in Ireland he had his best Rolex Series result. A 61 on Friday was his best ever European Tour round and on Saturday he moved to 20 under, a lowest 54 hole total for him, the season and the event. Erik van Rooyen was very impressive in establishing himself as the nearest challenger and an enthralling final day battle looks to be on the cards.

EDGA Open lights up Renaissance

Saturday saw the first day of the inaugural EDGA Scottish Open as ten players from the World Rankings for Golfers with Disability took each other on over the same Renaissance Club layout as the European Tour field. World Number One George Groves - who has a paralysis of the left arm called Erb's Palsy - and amputee Mike Browne shared the lead at three over, with the final 18 holes set to be played on Sunday. This event will be followed by the EDGA Dubai Finale at the season ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.

Pavan makes a dash

Andrea Pavan thought he had missed the cut on Friday night and went out in just the third group of the day in round three. Fast forward 18 blemish free holes and two eagles and five birdies had brought the Italian a 62 and a share of the lead. The 62 was not only Pavan's lowest round of his European Tour career but also ensured that so far this week our spectrum of scores is unbroken from 61 to 75. You don't get that every week.

The golfing gods giveth

They say that trees are 90 per cent air. That isn't true. Unless you're Adrian Otaegui.

And the golf gods taketh away

There's bad luck and then there is this. You're right Erik, that is one filthy pooch.
