Day two digest: 2022 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters

Everything you need to know from day two in Doha.

Pablo

Pablo turned things around on the back nine and Dean needed a little help from his friends on day two of the 2022 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday's second round at Doha Golf Club.

A tale of two nines for Larrazábal

First-round leader Pablo Larrazábal began the day two shots ahead of the chasing pack after Thursday's 64, but found himself four strokes off the pace at the turn after a front-nine 40. Did he let that affect him? Not at all. He bounced back with an eagle at the tenth before birdies on the 11th, 16th and 18th saw him sign for a 71 and grab the outright lead on nine under par.

What a difference a day makes

Swede Marcus Kinhult went into Friday's second round two over par after starting the week with a 74 which saw him card three bogeys and no birdies on Doha Golf Club's front nine. It was a different story on day two, though, as the 25-year-old birdied the first, second, sixth and ninth to turn in 32. That gave him the platform to post a 65 - the lowest round of the day - to take him into the weekend on five under par.

No putter required for Nienaber

South African Wilco Nienaber is so much more than just a big hitter, despite his obvious ability in that department. He proved that beyond doubt on Friday as he signed for a bogey-free 68 to move to eight under. Take a look at this beautiful chip...

Burmester's loose impediment

What do you do when the loose impediment you want to move weighs more than you? Get a mate to come and help? Well Dean Burmester encountered a rock so big at the ninth that he needed half a dozen people to assist him...

Jordan's weekend aim

Englishman Matthew Jordan sits three shots behind leader Larrazábal in a tie for sixth after a second straight 69. He is hoping to be in contention to win his first DP World Tour title on Sunday. He said: "I've said to a few people that I really want to be up there come the back nine on Sunday really. I want to try and make the most of tomorrow and give myself that chance. In the past, I’ve been a bit too far off to really contend, so that would be my goal for tomorrow, to get in there."
