It was raining birdies and eagles at The International on a low scoring Friday in Amsterdam. Beat the Pro! brought more joy to the Dutch fans, while one player enjoyed a fine start to his professional career.

Here is everything you need to know about the second day of the 100th edition of the KLM Open.

Morrison's inch perfect chip

The Englishman was the standout performer in the first round during windier conditions in the afternoon session to reach four under par. Morrison got himself in a tie for the lead at six under, but produced this terrific chip in at the par five 15th for an eagle to jump ahead on his own. Morrison enters the weekend in a tie for second place at nine under par and is in contention for his first title in four years.

Merritt’s birdie blitz

The two time PGA Tour Troy Merritt started the second round at one over par and was in real danger of missing the cut. His situation did not change when he reached the turn as he mixed just one birdie and one bogey, however, the dynamic changed on the back nine. The American rolled in six successive birdies from the tenth before carding another at the last to power up the leaderboard to six under for the tournament. Remarkably, Merritt also missed further birdies putt at the 16th and 17th.

Saddier, Sordet and Rumford beaten again

The Beat the Pro! challenge is taking place all week at the par three 13th in Amsterdam. Vince Komen, a 12-year-old amateur, claimed a pair of free tickets from event sponsor KLM - the Dutch airline - after beating French pair Adrien Saddier and Clément Sordet and Australian Brett Rumford in the closest to the pin competition on Thursday. There was a more famous winner on Friday morning when former Ajax, Barcelona and Holland international defender Ronald de Boer stepped up and defeated… you guessed Saddier, Sordet and Rumford.

Walker reaches weekend in first pro start

The 24-year-old was making his first start as a professional in the Netherlands and the Scot made a fine start to his career following on from his Walker Cup appearance last week. After a first round of level par, Walker secured his place at the weekend with a calm three under 69, carding six birdies and three bogeys on Friday. Well played.

Garcia shows his Spanish touch

Spanish players are renown for this soft hands around the greens and the 2017 Masters Tournament champion continued the tradition with a sublime par save at the 17th. After going wide of the par three green, Garcia needed to salvage a par to continue his hunt towards the top of the leaderboard. With undulations going in each direction, he decided to aim right of the flag in the hope of rolling the ball down the tier before feeding towards cup. And the 39-year-old judged the shot to perfection.
