DID YOU KNOW – HERO INDIAN OPEN

• The Hero Indian Open was first included on The European Tour International Schedule in 2015.

• The Hero Indian Open was the third event in that country to be played as part of The European Tour. The previous two tournaments were the EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters in 2008 and the Avantha Masters between 2010-2013.

• When Anirban Lahiri won the 2015 Hero Indian Open it was his second triumph of the 2015 European Tour season, following the Maybank Malaysian Open. He graduated from the 2014 European Tour Qualifying School. He became the fifth player in European Tour history to record multiple victories the season after graduation from the Qualifying School. The previous four were: Gordon Brand Jnr (1982 - two), José María Olazábal (1986 - two), Johan Edfors (2006 – three) and Branden Grace (2012 – four).

• Anirban Lahiri was a rookie in 2015 and joined Gordon Brand Jnr (1982) and José María Olazábal (1986), as rookies to win twice in their debut season on The European Tour after graduating from the Qualifying School.

• When Anirban Lahiri beat SSP Chawrasia into second place in the 2015 edition, this result represented the first Indian one-two in European Tour history, after Lahiri won in a play-off. This was also the first all-Indian European Tour play-off.

• SSP Chawrasia will be looking for an Indian hat-trick should he win the 2016 Hero Indian Open. His previous two European Tour titles were both in India, at the 2008 EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters and 2011 Avantha Masters. The last player to win their first three European Tour victories on home soil was Phil Mickelson (2004, Masters Tournament, 2005 US PGA Championship and 2006 Masters Tournament).

• The Hero Indian Open was first played in 1964 and won by five-time Open Champion, Peter Thomson. He went onto win the event again in 1966 and 1976. Jyoti Randhawa of India equalled the Australian’s record of most wins, having won in 2000, 2006 and 2007.
