DID YOU KNOW – OLYMPIC MEN’S GOLF COMPETITION
• The first time golf was included was in 1900 in Paris. This will be the first time golf has been played in the Olympic Games since 1904 in St Louis, USA. Golf was meant to be included in 1908 in London, but did not take place. The tournament was meant to be staged at Royal St George’s and Royal Cinque Ports.
• There will be 34 different nations competing. They are: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taipei, Thailand, United States and Venezuela.
• Of the 60 players competing, 43 are European Tour Members.
• Of the 60 players, there are six Major Champions, six WGC winners, one World Number One and 39 European Tour winners.
• The golf course being used for the event was designed by Gil Hanse, who was also behind the lay-out of Castle Stuart Golf Links, venue for this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.
