DID YOU KNOW - SALTIRE ENERGY PAUL LAWRIE MATCH PLAY
• The Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play is the last of five new events on the 2015 European Tour International Schedule. The other four are: True Thailand Classic presented by Black Mountain, Hero Indian Open, Shenzhen International and Afr/Asia Bank Mauritius Open.
• Like Gullane Golf Club, which staged the 2015 Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in early July, Murcar Links Golf Club is hosting a European Tour event for the first time. The Aberdeen venue is the 20th different Scottish club to witness a European Tour event, since the Tour’s first season in 1972.
• The Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play is the fifth different official match play event to be played since The European Tour’s first season in 1972. The tournaments are: PGA Match Play Championship (1972-1979), Epson Grand Prix of Europe (1986-1989), WGC – Cadillac Match Play Championship (1999 onwards) and World Match Play Championship (2004-2008, 2009, 2011-2014). (From 1972-2003 the World Match Play Championship and Accenture World Championship (1995-1997) were European Tour Approved Special Events).
• Murcar Links Golf Club is no stranger to holding European competition. In 1992, as part of the European Challenge Tour, the Northern Open was here. In 2006 Murcar also had the honour of holding the inaugural Scottish Challenge in 2006 on the European Challenge Tour. The venue is now the 34th club to have staged both a European and Challenge Tour event.
• The Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play is only the second time that a players’ name has featured in the title of a European Tour event. The first was the 2015 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation.
