• Defending Champion, Ariel Canete from Argentina began the 2007 season playing on the European Challenge Tour. His victory gave him a European Tour exemption until the end of 2009. Canete was the last Challenge Tour Member to win a European Tour event.
• James Kingston, the new South African Airways Open Champion will be looking for back-to-back European Tour victories. The 42 year old is the 25th different South African to win on The European Tour.
• The 2008 Joburg Open will see three of the five South Africans who won on The 2007 European Tour International Schedule competing – Anton Haig, Charl Schwartzel and Richard Sterne. Ernie Els and Retief Goosen made it a record five different South Africans to triumph in the 2007 season, making this a record for a single season.
• Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club’s East Course created a record in 2007 by becoming the longest course used for a European Tour event. The layout measured 7,590 yards (6,940 metres) with a par of 71.
