England’’s Luke Donald shot a level par 72 in tough, windy conditions to lead American Joe Durant by one stroke after 54 holes of the rain delayed Players Championship at the Stadium Course, Sawgrass, Florida. The fourth round is under way and officials hope to complete the 72 holes without resorting to a Tuesday conclusion.
Donald, who had played just three holes of his third round before the weather intervened once again on Sunday, overcame a double bogey six at the 14th to strike back with a birdie at the 16th to sign for his level par score.
Durrant, meanwhile, carded a bogey five at the last for a round of 71 and total of 205. US Open Champion, Retief Goosen of South Africa, fired a four under par 68 to move to eight under par but it was a torrid day for England's Lee Westwood, who was up among the leaders before dropping eight shots over the last five holes for an 80.
