Donald Secures Omega title with 28 birdies

Luke Donald’’s victory in the Omega European Masters was built upon some sensational putting and an incredible 28 birdies and two eagles, according to his Reuters Statistics.

Donald made seven birdies in each of his four rounds plus the two eagles for a 19 under par total of 265 to win by five strokes from Spain’’s Miguel Angel Jiménez.

During the week he averaged 1.468 putts per green in regulation, equating to more than one birdie for every two greens hit in regulation. Futhermore an average of 26 putts per round put him second in that category and his cause was further helped by his 100 per cent conversion rate from the bunkers, getting up and down on all eight occasions he found sand.
