Double Celebration for Jacobson as he Wins The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Award

Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden has won The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Award for April just a week after being named as the Asprey Golfer of the Month for the same period.

Jacobson’’s award ‘double’’ comes in the month in which he claimed his second title on The European Tour International Schedule with the assistance of the shot voted as the best played by a Tour Member during April.

The 28 year old, tied for the lead with two holes remaining of the Algarve Open de Portugal at Vale do Lobo, effectively sealed the tournament by holing his pitch for an eagle three at the 17th hole in the final round. Jacobson will receive The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Trophy from Waterford Crystal and a cheque for £1000 to be donated to a charity of his choice.

. The winning shot, selected by a panel comprising The European Tour and the golfing media, was Jacobson’’s third chip-in during an eventful last round. He also holed out for a birdie at the first and for a bogey at the third.

In second place was the superb approach to the 18th – the second play-off hole – played by England’’s Kenneth Ferrie in the Canarias Open de España which set up a birdie four and victory. Third was the seven iron to three feet at the same hole by Peter Lawrie of Ireland. The resulting eagle three earned him a place in the play-off.

Jacobson said: “It is fantastic to be voted Asprey Golfer of the Month and winner of The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Award in the space of a week. My chip-in for a bogey early in the round helped settle my nerves, but the one at the 17th was the one which won the tournament for me.”

The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Month Award, in association with The European Tour, Sky Sports and Golf Weekly, is presented to the Tour Member for the shot judged to be the most outstanding played during each calendar month on The European Tour International Schedule. In December 2003, the winning shots from each month will be entered towards The Royal Bank of Scotland Shot of the Year Award.

Jacobson is the fourth monthly winner, following Trevor Immelman (January), Paul Casey (February) and Robert-Jan Derksen (March).
