Dyson sweeps up World Ranking

Simon Dyson has risen to a career-best 28th place in the Official Golf World Ranking after claiming his second victory of the year at last week’s KLM Open.

The 33 year old climbed 27 places from the previous week’s standings after winning his third KLM Open in six years, having also won the event in 2006 and 2009, and the Englishman joins an illustrious crowd to have won the tournament three times with Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer having also claimed treble success at the Dutch showpiece.

Dyson’s ascent into the top 30 of the Rankings marks what has already been a highly successful year for the Yorkshireman.  Having already taken the spoils at the Irish Open presented by Discover Ireland in July, his win last week in Hilversum made it six victories on the European Tour and boosted his season’s earnings to €1,298,904.

Rory McIlroy’s third place finish at the KLM Open meant he has moved up a place to third in the World Ranking. The Northern Irishman’s latest move up the table equals his best-ever Ranking position, having achieved the feat for the first time after his stunning victory in the 2011 US Open in June.

With Luke Donald resting between FedExCup events in the United States, the gap between first and second in the World Ranking was marginally narrowed after Lee Westwood finished fifth in The Netherlands. However, with an average of 10.476 points to Westwood’s 8.214, Donald’s lead at the summit of world golf remains comfortable.

Martin Kaymer, having gone into last week’s tournament as defending champion, slipped back three places to sixth in the Rankings after missing the cut at the KLM, while a special mention must go to Englishman Tommy Fleetwood who, after taking the biggest prize on the Challenge Tour by winning the Kazakhstan Open last week, found himself propelled 109 places up the Rankings to 214th.
