Ernie Els Wins The RBS Shot of the Month Award for March

Ernie Els of South Africa has won the RBS Shot of the Month Award for March. Els received the RBS Shot of the Month Trophy and a £1000 cheque to donate to a charity of his choice - the Ernie Els Foundation - at Wentworth Club.

The 2003 and 2004 European Tour Order of Merit winner was nominated for the superb six iron second shot he played to the final hole of the Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates Golf Club, setting up the only eagle three of the final day.

Knowing Stephen Dodd of Wales had finished a shot ahead of him and playing partner Miguel Angel Jiménez of Spain was already on the green in two, Els knew he had to conjure up something special. He did just that with that glorious shot to 22 feet which set up the eagle which won him the tournament by a shot.

In second place was the winning putt holed by Paul Casey at the second extra hole of the TCL Classic, the Englishman’’s 25 foot effort securing his fourth European Tour victory.

Third was the escape shot played by England’’s Paul Broadhurst at the 15th hole in the final round of the Estoril Open de Portugal Caixa Geral de Depositos. Faced wth a tough, buried lie in a sandhill, the 40 year old produced a fine recovery to within six feet to save par and keep the momentum going for his eventual victory.

The RBS Shot of the Month Award, in association with The European Tour, Sky Sports and The Daily Telegraph, is presented to the Tour Member for the shot judged to be the most outstanding played during each calendar month on The European Tour International Schedule. The winning shots from each month are entered towards the RBS Shot of the Year Award.

Previous winners in 2005 have been the English pair of Nick Dougherty (January) and Miles Tunnicliff (February).
