Eurobet, the online betting arm of the Coral Group, is to become title sponsor of the inaugural Seve Ballesteros Trophy at the Old Course, Sunningdale, from April 14-16.
The three-day match, between Great Britain and Ireland and the Continent of Europe, has been named in honour of the great Spanish player and will be part of the European Tour’s International Schedule for the 2000 season. The €2.4 million (approx £1.5 million) contest will be played in non-Ryder Cup years.
Ballesteros, the five-time major champion from Spain, will captain the Continental Europe side with European No.1 for the last seven times, Colin Montgomerie, leading the Great Britain and Ireland team.
The ten-man teams will compete for the Eurobet Seve Ballesteros Trophy in fourballs, foursomes, greensomes and singles with the winners receiving €150,000 (£92,000) each, and the runners-up €90,000 (£50,000).
Trevor Beaumont, Managing Director of Eurobet, said: “The Eurobet Seve Ballesteros Trophy is a great opportunity for Eurobet to support another major sport that they are offering to betting fans. We are delighted to be involved with Seve and such a prestigious European event.”
Eurobet.co.uk is Coral’s UK-based online sports betting service. Launched in March 2000, Eurobet makes it simple to place a bet over the Internet. As title sponsors of the Seve Ballesteros Trophy, Eurobet will be offering £100,000 to the winner of a Hole In One Challenge.
Anyone achieving a hole in one during the match on the 13th hole will win £50,000, which will go to the British Lung Foundation (BLF), and the other £50,000 being donated to charities of the winning team’s choice.
