Thomas Björn of Denmark handed a cheque for £42,000 to the BBC’’s Steve Rider at the end of The Barclays Scottish Open. The money is the sum total raised for Sport Relief by The European Tour players during the Red Bull Final 5 competition.
The golfers have played the Red Bull Final 5 – a competition that rewards the best player over the final five holes – at three events on The European Tour this year: The Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters, the Volvo PGA Championship and The Barclays Scottish Open.
Red Bull donated £1,000 to Sport Relief for every shot under par for the best Final 5 score on each day of the tournaments. The players’’ performance raised £12,000, £15,000 and £15,000 at the respective events.
Spain’’s Miguel Angel Jiménez carded three under over the final five holes in the final round at Loch Lomond to add £3,000 to the £12,000 donated over the earlier rounds. The biggest donor to Sport Relief was Darren Clarke. His four under par in the final round of The Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters and another four under par in the first round at the Volvo PGA Championship took his personal donation to £8,000.
