As The 2007 European Tour season drew to a close at Valderrama, it was fitting that Mel Pyatt, the retiring President and CEO of Volvo Event Management and George O’Grady, Chief Executive of the Tour, were able to raise a glass to toast the golfing media with Marques de Riscal, Official Wine to the Tour and The Ryder Cup since 1997.
The Tour and Marques de Riscal recently celebrated a new four year extension of both contracts. At a special luncheon in Barcelona, which also celebrated the centenary of the Deportivo newspaper – one of golf’s strongest supporters in Spain – Javier Ibanez, Export Director for Marques de Riscal, said: “We have enjoyed our involvement in golf and our partnership with The European Tour, which first began at Valderrama 11 years ago.
“It is entirely fitting that we are announcing this new four year extension on the final day of the 20th Volvo Masters at Valderrama, where we first inaugurated our association with the Tour.”
Scott Kelly, Group Marketing Director of The European Tour, said: “The partnership between the Tour and Marques de Riscal has been one of our most enduring and popular sponsorships. We are delighted to have agreed this four year extension, which ensures that Marques de Riscal remains the Official Wine of The European Tour until 2010, and the company will be the Preferred Supplier to The Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.”
