The European Tour takes a break this week before heading to Georgia for the Masters, the much anticipated first Major of the season.
Having reached a career high of number five in the world after winning the WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship, Ian Poulter will be teeing up at Augusta National with the hope of becoming the first of a talented crop of young Englishman to win a major. Ian talks to ETW about his rise up the global rankings and his aspirations for the season.
As always European Tour Weekly will take a look back at the most recent event. This week that means the Open de Andalucia de Golf. ETW will highlight all of the best of the action from the Parador de Málaga Golf.
Whilst in Andalucia ETW caught up with Malaga resident Pablo Martin. In 2007 Pablo made European Tour history when he became the first amateur to win a European Tour event after his triumph at the Estoril Open de Portugal. Pablo has struggled for form since then, but started this season by claiming his second European Tour victory at the season opening Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.
Having already finished third in Malaysia and sixth in Abu Dhabi in his debut season ETW’s One To Watch for 2010, Rhys Davies broke through in Morocco for his maiden European Tour victory. We catch up with the delighted Welshman, who a year ago had no status in Europe and is now guaranteed a card for two years after winning the Trophée Hassan II in stylish fashion.
In a special feature European Tour Weekly met up with both Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin. The pair were famously involved in one of golf’s greatest moments of sportsmanship when, during the final match of the 1969 Ryder Cup at Royal Birkdale, Nicklaus conceded Jacklin’s putt on the final green which culminated in the first ever tie in Ryder Cup history. They both speak to ETW about that famous incident and how they see this years Ryder Cup teams shaping up.
