INTERESTING FACTS

Defending champion Ernie Els will be looking to continue his remarkable record in the Heineken Classic. Since 1997, The Open Champion has played in the event five times – and won the event last year and tied second in 1999. In his five appearances Els has never finished worse than eighth and is 59 under par for 20 rounds in the event – 16 at he Vines Resort and four at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The 1999 event witnessed European Tour history when Jarrod Moseley became only the fourth player to win on his European Tour debut. He joined Dale Hayes (1971 Spanish Open), Hal Underwood (1975 Portuguese Open) and Tom Watson (104th Open Golf Championship). Aaron Baddeley has since joined that exclusive club winning the 2001 Greg Norman Holden International.
