Family affair at Masters Par 3 Contest

DP World Tour stars made the most of the Par 3 contest with their families before play was suspended for the remainder of the day.

Despite earlier weather delays, the traditional Wednesday Par 3 contest at The Masters was able to get under way at Augusta National, and several groups managed to play the entire nine holes before play was suspended due to inclement weather.

It was the first time the contest had been staged since 2019, and the day ended with 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir and fellow Canadian Mackenzie Hughes sharing the title on four under par. Interestingly, Weir is not the first former Masters champion to win the Par 3 contest, but if he or Hughes did win the Green Jacket this week, they would become the first players in history to break the 'curse' and win the Par 3 and the Masters in the same week.

And while Weir and Hughes can celebrate victory, the headline makers of the Par 3 Contest were once again the youngsters, family members and friends who the players chose to share it with.

This year, DP World Tour players Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey, Thomas Pieters, Justin Rose, Danny Willett and Rory McIlroy were just some of the many competitors who enjoyed moments with their children out on the course.

One group in particular that garnered plenty of attention was the one of Rahm and Fleetwood, whose young sons were there for the first time. Rahm was with his wife Kelley and one-year-old son Kepa, while Fleetwood had his step-sons and three-year old son Frankie with him, who spent much of his time running between tees and greens.

"We had to carry him most of the day, so it's a little more demanding, but it's fun," said Rahm, who was there with his wife Kelly and one-year-old son Kepa.

"We played with the Fleetwoods, and Frankie is three now, so we get a view into the future.

"It's a lot of fun. It's really cool they let us do this with the family, and it's a very nice event to have before starting the Masters."

Elsewhere, Robert MacIntyre shared the moment with his dad, while Min Woo Lee, who is making his Masters debut this week, had sister and Major champion Minjee Lee on his bag.

"Had my sister on the bag, Minjee, and she had a shot close in there, so that was nice and fun," said Lee.

"It's fun just hitting little wedges into greens that spin 30 feet. It was amazing."
