It was a fantastic week for any Simon Khan fans as the Englishman picked up maximum points and the winners trophy at the 2004 Celtic Manor Wales Open in Newport. Khan secured his maiden European Tour victory on the second hole of a play-off against Paul Casey of England.
Khan, who shot a Course record 61 in the Second Round, shot a Final round 67 to overhaul Casey’’s overnight lead and then kept his nerve in the playoff. His victory earnt the man from Chingford 375,092 points and top POOL D pick.
The top POOL A pick was former European Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie. The Scot finished in a tie for 15th place after he shot a Final Round of 74 for a -10 finish. Montgomorie earnt 27,538 points.
In POOL B Paul Casey’’s second place ensured he was top pick. Ryder Cup hopeful and Runner-up Casey, who finished level with Khan on -21, earnt 250,051 points.
In POOL C David Howell was the top earner. The man from Weybridge, Surrey carded a final round 68 to finish in a tie for fifth place on -14. He also earnt a bumper 74,495 points. The highest earning POOL E player was Robert Coles of England who finished in a tie for 15th place. His effort earned him 27,538 points.
Team of the week was "BRIDO" managed by Brian Gray, who earned an impressive 737,673 points from a possible Fantasy Five total of 754,712. Who will win at Gleneagles in Scotland this week? Get your thinking caps on and good luck.
