Australian Brett Rumford captured his second European Tour victory last week at the Nissan Irish Open, earning the largest cheque of his career so far only two days before his 27th birthday. A fine opening round of 66 was complimented with a great last round of 67. This assured a four shot victory over Irishman Padraig Harrington and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin, and earned 316,660 fantasy points for Rumford's fans as the top pick from Pool B.
Local favourite Padraig Harrington pushed him hard on the last day but left himself with too much to do despite a fine round of 67 on the last day, earning 165,025 fantasy points as the top pick from Pool A. In a share of second place overall, and also earning his fans 165,025 points after a final round 67, was Raphael Jacquelin. The Frenchman resumed the fine form he showed earlier in the season, and picked up his fifth top five finish in 2004.
Englishman Paul Broadhurst kept the momentum going in his season, adding a second tie for fifth place to the one he earned at The Daily Telegraph Damovo British Masters in May. Broadhurst earned his fans 68,020 points as the top pick from Pool D. Peter Baker capped off a fine week of golf as the top Pool E pick, earning 42,687 points. Rounds of 70, 72, 69, and 70 were enough to ensure Baker's best finish so far in 2004, a tie for eighth place.
Team of the week was Mark Mouland's "MOULIES PICK" team, who earned a fantastic 402,540 points from a possible 757,417 points.
