Fantasy Race to Dubai

After a week off, The Race to Dubai heads to Scotland for the return of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

With Ryder Cup players coming over to play straight from Wisconsin and others returning after a week of rest, there is a star studded field set to play the unique event - which is played over three separate courses for the first three days at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and The Old Course in St. Andrews, followed by a final day at the Home of Golf.

But who will be crowned champion? Read on below to find out who our experts think.

Branden Grace

A favourite of mine when the conditions are tough and windy. The 33 year old is a past champion at the Alfred Dunhill Links. Having won on the PGA Tour this year in Puerto Rico (it might be as windy here but certainly not as warm), Grace is flying up the work rankings to 56th

The South African last outing saw him finish 12th in the Dutch Open, and with his laid back attitude the pro am format will really suit him.

Robert MacIntyre

After a week off watching the Ryder Cup, Bob will be thinking to himself "I want to be in that team next time". The Scotsman will be well rested and well used to the links conditions. The former rookie of the year has had two top 10’s in the Open and two top 20’s in the Scottish Open. Added to this his breakthrough 2nd place at the British Masters around Hillside GC. After a disappointing run of form MacIntyre will hope to kick start his season once again at the home of golf.

Shane Lowry

One of the shining lights of the losing Europe Team last week, Lowry only played 3 matches when many were calling for him to feature in more. He spoke about it being the best week of his life. With the stress of trying to make the team he still performed well with a T17 at Wentworth. In fact he hasn’t missed a cut on either tour since the Arnold Palmer in the Spring. Now the Ryder Cup is over he will free up and start playing even better. Lowry is a bad weather, links specialist (past Irish Open and the Open champions), which is why he is favourite this week and on my side.

Tommy Fleetwood

He didn’t have the best week at Whistling Straits but he finished T2 and T12 in the two European Tour events prior to that. His form has been solid this year but he hasn’t contended enough – he’s notched 11 top-26s but only two of them have been top-5s. He grew up playing links golf and has a strong record in this event, with finish 2nd on two occasions and 5th three times and never missing the cut in the last nine editions.

Tyrrell Hatton

Another player looking to bounce back from Ryder Cup disappointment, but there’s no better place for the six-time European Tour winner to do that than the Dunhill Links. Two of those victories came here and he’s finished T2 and T15 in the two renewals since those back-to-back triumphs. There’s also the added incentive that he’s playing with his father Jeff, to celebrate his 60th birthday.

Alex Noren

The Swede finished the PGA Tour season well with a T4 and a T9 in the first two FedEx Cup play-off events, before a decent T27 at the BMW PGA Championship. He hasn’t played here that regularly, but he has a good record when he does – 3rd in 2012, 11th in 2016 and 15th in 2019. He’s previously won the abrdn Scottish Open on a links course and generally does well in northern Europe. He was 13th in ‘strokes gained - putting’ and 27th in ‘strokes gained - around the green’ on the PGA Tour this season.
