Fantasy Three to Watch in China

From Morocco to Shenzhen, we're in China's 11th biggest city this week for the first of two back-to-back countries in Asia. A strong field, including the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Bubba Watson, Ross Fisher and Joost Luiten, have made their way to Genzon Golf Club for the third edition of the Shenzhen International.

Shenzhen International

The 7,145 yard layout provides a stern test for players especially when they miss the fairway. In the last years, only Wentworth, Le Golf National and DLF Golf and Country Club have punished players more for missing fairways than Genzon Golf Club. Over the last two years, big hitters and ball strikers have done well. That being said, here's who our statistics guru has selected as this week's Fantasy Three to Watch.

Pick of the favourites: Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood

Fresh off his debut appearance at the Masters, Tommy Fleetwood arrives in China in the form of his life. In eight starts this season the Englishman has three top three finishes including the biggest win of his career at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He leads the Tour in Greens in Regulation, hitting 83 percent, and has a good history at this tournament. The 26 year old has yet to shoot over par on the challenging Genzon Golf Club layout, finishing third here in his debut two years ago and top 20 last year. He has the best scrambling percentage at this course, having saved par 32 times from 44 missed greens over the past two years. Fleetwood has dropped just 1.5 shots a round here which is the fewest of any player who has played at least four rounds.

Form horse: Alex Levy

Few players enjoy a trip to China more than Alex Levy. The Frenchman has finished in the top 30 in all seven of his European Tour starts in China including a win at this course back at the 2014 Volvo China Open. He averages 3.57 shots better than the field average at Genzon Golf Club, which leads all players who’ve teed it up at the Shenzhen International. Levy finished in the top five in Malaysia in February and showed signs last week in Morocco that his game is trending back into the form that has seen him win three times on Tour.

Wildcard: Julien Quesne

Julien Quesne during the first round of the 2016 Omega European Masters

Few Fantasy users will have the name Julien Quesne on their shortlist this week but the Frenchman could be worth selection. Quesne has finished in the top 15 in both his appearances here, including a top five in 2015, and is the top birdie-maker at Genzon Golf Club making 59 birdies in just eight career rounds. Quesne is known as one of the best putters on Tour and has proved that on this greens in the past. He averages 1.68 Putts per Green in Regulation here, no one averages less. He may have just one made cut in six starts this season but don’t be surprised if the 36 year old finds his game this week in China.
