Pick of the favourites: Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy

Few can boast a tournament record as impressive as four-time Major champion McIlroy when it comes to the WGC-HSBC Champions. The Northern Irishman has finished outside the top ten just once in five appearances – a share of 11th place 12 months ago -  with three top fives to his name.

Another strong season for McIlroy puts him a commanding position as he goes in search of his third World Golf Championship victory. One win and seven other top tens on the European Tour this year, including top fives at the WGC-Cadillac Championship and WGC-Dell Match Play, make McIlroy one of the men most likely to challenge in Shanghai.

The 2011 champion is enjoying one of the most consistent runs of his career. With four top tens in his last five European Tour events, Kaymer has every right to be feeling confident heading into the first round at Sheshan International Golf Club.

Kaymer arrives in China on the back of consecutive sixth placed finishes at the Porsche European Open and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The German has another four top tens in this tournament to go with his victory five years ago, when he shot rounds of 69-68-68-63, meaning this could be another successful week on tour for the two-time Major winner.

Wildcard: Li Haotong

Haotong Li

The last time Li Haotong played in his native China he won his first European Tour title at the Volvo China Open, and he returns home this week with every right to think he could challenge again. Last year he shared seventh with Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and Matt Fitzpatrick in this event, before winning his maiden European Tour title six months later.

The 21 year old has two top 20 finishes in his last four events.  With the advantage of vocal home support, there’s no reason Li can’t secure his second European Tour title on one of the biggest stages of all.

Those are our picks, now it’s time to make yours. Whether you are playing theFantasy Race to Dubaior our newDaily Fantasy Game, be sure to make your picks before Wednesday night. Good luck!
