Fantasy Three to watch in Memphis

Ahead of this week’s WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational our stats guru has pored over the numbers to bring you three picks for your fantasy teams this week.

Rory McIlroy

*Favourite: Rory McIlroy *

Beware of a McIlroy with a point to prove. On three of the last four occasions the Northern Irishman missed a cut he has finished first or second – 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational (won), 2018 BMW PGA Championship (second), 2018 Travelers Championship (tied 12th), 2019 RBC Canadian Open (won).

The four-time Major Champion, who agonisingly missed the weekend at Portrush by one shot last week after an outstanding second round 65, can also boast to having the best scoring average of any player in World Golf Championships since 2010, with an average of 69.43.

Add in the fact that the 30-year-old has triumphed twice and amassed a further nine top ten finishes this season and you can see why we’re backing McIlroy to immediately return to the top end of the leaderboard this week.

Tommy Fleetwood

Form Horse: Tommy Fleetwood

Following another excellent performance in a Major Championship last week, Fleetwood will arrive in Memphis even hungrier for a first victory of 2019.

Having been eventual champion Shane Lowry’s closest challenger last week, the Englishman was forced to settle for his second runner-up placing in a Major in as many years.

In fact, the 28-year-old has recorded 14 top-ten finishes without a win on the PGA Tour over the last three seasons, the second-most by any winless player behind Tony Finau, who was claimed 23 top tens.

With plenty of momentum behind him we see no reason why Fleetwood can’t go one better at TPC Southwind.

Lucas Bjerregaard

Wildcard: Lucas Bjerregaard

Who can forget the Dane’s last appearance in a World Golf Championship? The 27-year-old hit headlines around the world when he took down Tiger Woods in a memorable match at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play with a gritty 1UP victory in the quarter-final stage.

Since then the World Number 49 has secured top-25 finishes in three of this year’s four Majors, most notably a share of 16th at Portrush last week.

Clearly comfortable on the biggest stages, the two-time European Tour winner could be one to keep an eye on in Tennessee.

Those are our picks, did we do enough to convince you? Add them to your European Tour Daily Fantasy Game and your line-up in the Fantasy Race to Dubai before the action begins on Thursday.
