From Rio to the Czech Republic, the Race to Dubai continues this week in Prague at the D+D REAL Czech Masters. The Albatross Golf Resort, a European Tour Destination, hosts the tournament for a third straight year and again provides a distinct challenge of length and accuracy. With that in mind, our stats guru has selected three players worthy of a place on yourFantasyteams this week
Pick of the favourites: Lee Westwood
View Player Profile
At 43, Lee Westwood is enjoying something of a comeback season after a runner-up at the Masters and five top 15 finishes in his last eight European Tour starts. Having made the cut in his ninth straight Major at Baltusrol (only Jason Day has more consecutive cuts made at the Majors) the Englishman has taken a fortnight off before returning this week. He’s finished in the top ten in his last three starts in the Czech Republic and knows a good week this week could see him lock down a wildcard pick for his tenth Ryder Cup appearance. His accurate game tee-to-green should be ideal for the testing Albatross Golf Resort layout and the 23-time European Tour winner has improved his short game, ranking top 30 in Scrambling this season.
Form Horse: Eddie Pepperell
View Player Profile
Fellow Englishman Eddie Pepperell arrives in the Czech Republic in fine form after a sixth place finish at the Kings Cup in Thailand, which included a stunning third round 63. The Wise Old Owl, as he’s known, has a fondness for this week’s course, finishing fifth here in 2014 and 22nd last year. Three top tens this season have again shown Pepperell’s well-known potential. Look out for the 25 year old’s often-hot putter this week on the greens.
Wildcard: Haydn Porteous
View Player Profile
At just 22 years old, Haydn Porteous is one of a fleet of impressive young winners on Tour and his recent form has shown why he was able to pick up his first win at the Joburg Open earlier this year. The South African made it to the Quarter Finals of the Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play two weeks ago, losing only to the eventual winner Anthony Wall. Two weeks prior at The Open Championship, Porteous led during round one before going on to notch a top 30 in his first Major start. This week’s venue is known to favour long hitters and few players hit further than Porteous, who ranked first in Driving Distance last season with an average of 327 yards.
