Pick of the favourites: Martin Kaymer

You could understand Martin Kaymer having a rush of confidence when he steps foot on Scottish soil this week. The 11-time European Tour winner was triumphant in the 2010 edition of this tournament, finishing three shots clear of current Masters champion Danny Willett. He returns to some of Scotland’s most famed links as a man enjoying another strong season.

A consistent year, that has included seven top tens and ten top 20 finishes in his last 12 starts, the German arrives at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship ready to improve on an already impressive record at this event. Second place in 2008 was followed by his victory two years later, and a seventh place finish in 2013 suggests he could be one to watch in Scotland this week.

Form Horse: Bernd Wiesberger

Bernd Wiesberger

With two top fives to his name in his last two events, Bernd Wiesberger is in a strong vein of form. The Austrian took outright fifth in Bad Griesbach at the Porsche European Open and finished second to an inspired Joost Luiten at the KLM Open two weeks earlier.

The 30 year old enjoyed an excellent 2015 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, where he finished in a share of fourth place, only three shots behind winner Thorbjørn Olesen. The three links courses the event takes place on, St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, seem  well suited to Wiesberger’s eye, with the three time European Tour winner having two more top 20 finishes in this event to his name. A strong year in which he sits in the top 20 in Stroke Average, Greens in Regulation and Scrambling means Wiesberger is one of the form players in Scotland.

Wildcard: Joakim Lagergren

 Joakim Lagergren

The 24 year old from Stockholm made everyone sit up and take notice with a couple of standout performances last season, including his share of an impressive fourth place at this event. A third round 62 was the highlight of the week for the Swede as he challenged for his maiden European Tour title.

A recent fifth place finish at the Made in Denmark included another 62 and saw him co-lead after 18 holes. Lagergren could be a man to keep an eye on, particularly if he can rediscover the form that saw him contend amongst more experienced players on the Scottish east coast last year.

Those are our three picks, now it's time to make yours. Whether you are playing theFantasy Race to Dubaior ournew Daily Fantasy Game, be sure to make your picks before Wednesday night. Good luck!
