After a nail-biting week at the Portugal Masters, attention now turns to the final World Golf Championships event of the year – the WGC-HSBC Champions at Sheshan International Golf Club, Shanghai.
Our stats guru has been studying the form to offer you three selections for your Fantasy Golf teams this week.
Favourite – Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy heads into this week in arguably the most consistent form of his career, with 17 top ten finishes worldwide in 2019 - the most he has had in a calendar year in his entire career.
But it is his form at WGC events that makes McIlroy stand out from the rest. He currently holds the best scoring average at WGCs in the last five years (69.15) and also has the second best cumulative score to par at WGCs at 189-under-par.
At this event in particular, the 30-year-old is tied-second for rounds of 66 or lower since 2013 with four. The consistency in his game is a joy to watch at the moment, so do not be surprised to see McIlroy atop the leaderboard at the end of the week.
Form Horse – Bernd Wiesberger
Austrian Bernd Wiesberger is enjoying his most successful year to date on the European Tour, collecting more than €3.5 million in prize money this year thanks to victories at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open and the Italian Open – both Rolex Series events.
Furthermore, he has three additional top tens this season including a runner-up finish at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, another Rolex Series event, all of which have him on top of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex.
Only four players have more European Tour wins since the beginning of 2012 than Wiesberger, who has collected seven and he will look to add his first World Golf Championships title.
Wildcard – Kurt Kitayama
Kurt Kitayama has enjoyed a stellar rookie season on the European Tour, picking up two victories at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at Anahita and the Oman Open.
The American comes into the week in good form having finished third at the Italian Open and fourth in his last start at the Amundi Open de France.
One more victory this season and Kitayama will become only the second American to win three times on the European Tour in one season, joining none other than Tiger Woods. A win here would also boost his chances of becoming the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year on the European Tour.
