Fitzpatrick leads in Dubai

Matthew Fitzpatrick held a one-shot lead as the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai neared its conclusion on Sunday.

The two-time European Tour winner started his final round a single shot behind overnight leader Victor Dubuisson, but he made gains at the second and third holes to jump to the top of the leaderboard.

Fitzpatrick dropped into a share of the lead when fellow Englishman Tyrrell Hatton notched back-to-back birdies at the fifth and sixth to join him on 14 under.

But the Sheffield native rolled in his ten foot birdie putt at the long seventh to regain the outright lead.

Fitzpatrick was inches away from making another gain at the eighth but watched his birdie putt just miss the hole.

The 22 year old then safely parred the ninth to cover his front nine in 33 shots.

Hatton was on his own in second on 14 under after reaching the turn in 34.

Swede Henrik Stenson, who tops the Race to Dubai rankings presented by Rolex, made a big move on Sunday, firing seven birdies in his first 15 holes to get to 12 under.

With Danny Willett posting a closing 70 to finish the week on two under and Alex Noren on nine under after 11 holes, Stenson remains in pole position to win the Race to Dubai title.
